What Changes Between the Philips 3300, 4400 and 5500?

Published · By the Espresso Shortlist editors · Prices and specs as of that date, from the pages under Sources

Summary

On Philips' U.S. store the 3300 ($899.99) makes 6 hot and iced drinks, the 4400 ($1,199.99) makes 12 and adds QuickStart, and the 5500 ($1,299.99) makes 20. The milk system is LatteGo on all three, so moving up buys a longer menu and a faster start more than a different kind of machine.

The biggest jump in price is from the 3300 to the 4400, $300 for six more drinks and QuickStart. The 4400 page also lists two user profiles for saving favorite drinks, where the 3300 has none. The 5500 adds another eight drinks for $100 more. Philips advertises SilentBrew on the 3300 and 5500 pages as 40% quieter than its earlier models, and on the 5500 as certified by Quiet Mark. The 4400 page doesn't mention it.

Some features don't change as you move up. LatteGo is the milk system on all three, and Philips says it can be cleaned in as little as 10 seconds. With the AquaClean filter, Philips says you can make up to 5,000 cups without descaling, based on replacing the filter 8 times when the machine asks.

Model numbers in listings

The 5500 sold on Philips' U.S. store is the EP5544/94, while Philips' separate product site still describes the EP5547/90. Older series still turn up in listings too. The 3200, 4300, and 5400 appear on the U.S. store only as open-box listings, not as new machines. A review of a 5400 or 3200 describes a different machine from the current 5500 or 3300, even though the numbers are close.
