Summary

Enough for a machine that grinds and brews at the touch of a button, from several brands, and the part that changes as the price climbs is the milk hardware. Gaggia's US lineup shows the steps: a pannarello wand on the $499 Brera, a commercial wand on the $749 Magenta Plus, and a milk carafe from the $799 Velasca Prestige up. Philips puts its automatic LatteGo frother on machines at $699.99 and $899.99, and Bosch lists its 300 Series VeroCafe at $799 and $899. Past $1,000, Gaggia's next model starts at $1,049 and Bosch's at $1,099.

What costs more than $1,000

Within Philips, the drink menu grows with the price. The $699.99 2300 lists "4 hot and iced drinks," the $899.99 3300 lists "6," and the $1,299.99 5500 lists "20 different coffee presets." Bosch's 300 Series makes 5 beverages, and the 500 Series starts at $1,099. Gaggia's Cadorna Prestige starts at $1,049.

Cleaning the brew unit

Bosch says the 300 Series brewing unit is "washable by rinsing under running water," and the Demi also has a removable brew unit. Bosch's limited warranty on the 300 Series covers parts and labor for two years or 7,000 cups, whichever comes first.
